Alu Wadi

Alu wadi or patra is a popular gujarati dish prepapred with colocasia leaves and gram flour. Colocasia leaves are stuffed with spiacy, tangy, sweetish gram flour paste. Not only is this loaded with vitamins and minerals, it is made in very less oil. 


  • Colocosia leaves 
  • Besan 
  • Jaggery
  • Tamrind paste 
  • Ajwain
  • Salt 
  • Turmeric
  • Chilly powder 
  • water


  • For besan paste: Add besan, jaggery, tamrind paste, ajwain , salt , turmeric, chilly powder and water. Mix well in a paste.
  • Take a colocasia leave, spread some besan paste all over it evenly.  Take another leave upside down and apply the besan paste again. 
  • Repeat this as many as times you like then roll it, steam it for 10-15 minutes. Once, it cools down cut it into small pieces. 
  • Now sauté it with sesame seeds on low heat. Serve warm.
